Vajra delivered a well-deserved breakthrough at Saratoga on August 26, breaking her maiden with an impressive front-running performance for GVG Genetics.
The three-year-old daughter of Vekoma entered the 5½-furlong maiden special weight on the turf having already shown plenty of promise, and she put it all together on Wednesday. Despite being bumped at the start, Vajra went straight to the front under Flavien Prat, setting the pace along the inside through quick early fractions. She turned for home still in command and responded when asked, edging clear through the stretch to secure the victory.
The win came in a $115,000 maiden special weight and marked another strong effort in what has been a consistent start to her career. Vajra has now finished on the board in three of five starts with earnings of $100,430.
Purchased for $150,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Vajra is by Vekoma out of the Hansen mare Lady Hansen.
Congratulations to GVG Genetics and the entire team behind Vajra on a well-earned Saratoga victory. We’re excited to see what’s next for this promising filly.
