Brooke Baker - Owner / Manager of September Farm
Assistant Trainer of Brisset Racing Stable
Brooke Baker began her journey in thoroughbred racing in 2011, starting her career with esteemed trainer Graham Motion, where she worked for five years. She then continued her professional development with five years at Shug McGaughey's stable. Following this, Brooke traveled and took on freelance work before joining Rodolphe Brisset as soon as he established his own operation.
Brooke is deeply committed to thoroughbred aftercare. She has competed in the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) and the Real Rider Cup, and she actively assists in the rehoming of horses. Additionally, Brooke is involved in the show jumping community, where she currently competes with her off-the-track thoroughbreds (OTTBs), "The Black Album" and "Hozier." She is also a member of the Kentucky Reined Cowhorse Association (KRHA) and shows her Quarter Horse, "Cheerio."
Her passion for show jumping led her to racing when she sought to earn a paycheck. As an assistant trainer, Brooke plays a vital role in the operation. While most barns have a designated trainer, she has the flexibility to fill in where needed when others take time off, and she rides the pony every morning at the barn.
Rodolphe and Brooke met at Payson Park in 2015 while he was working for Bill Mott, and she was with Shug. They are fortunate to work together and still enjoy going home together after a long day. Their careers took a significant turn thanks to the couple of horses they had early on. Notably, "Talk Veuve to Me" was a significant horse for them, and they were lucky to co-own "Quip," who ran in their first classic. "Yuugiri" provided a memorable experience, while "Mullikin" gave them their first Grade 1 win, and "Warheart" was their first stakes winner bred at September Farm.
It takes an army to help do what we do. We have many people who step in and assist when needed. Ginger, Brookes mother, has been a big help in covering a lot of their son Ryan’s extracurricular activities, allowing them to work the unusual hours required. Ryan has always been an easygoing kid and goes with the flow. He has a love for the outdoors and animals, enjoying fishing and exploring nature. Balancing their time can sometimes be challenging with the demands of the farm and racing barn, but they make it a point to take a couple of vacations each year.
At September Farm, often affectionately referred to as "the Spa" by several owners, the team individualizes care for each horse to meet their specific needs. They prioritize allowing the horses to just be horses, featuring small group turnouts and various boarding options, from full layup to basic board for broodmares during the off-season. They also prepare all their own horses for the sales.
Brooke is an active member of the KRHA, USHJA, KJHA, and USEF. She attended the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) in 2023 and plans to return in 2025 with "Hozier." September Farm is actively involved in the Versailles community by supporting local firefighters, the Woodford Country Club, school galas, fundraisers, the Woodford County Humane Society, and youth baseball programs.
In her personal time, Brooke loves attending country concerts and comedy shows, and her favorite vacation spot is Montana, which she tries to visit yearly. She enjoys trivia nights every Wednesday with a close group of friends, a tradition they’ve maintained for years.
