Emerald Spun Captures Allowance at Colonial Downs

Emerald Spun continued her impressive summer campaign on August 23, digging deep to capture a $90,000 allowance at Colonial Downs in a thrilling finish.

The three-year-old daughter of Hard Spun was unhurried early in the one-mile turf contest under jockey Jareth Loveberry. After encountering traffic through the opening stages, she shifted outside and began making her move down the backstretch, advancing four wide to put herself into contention around the far turn.

Emerald Spun challenged for the lead before briefly falling back entering the stretch, but she wasn't finished. She came again on the outside in the final stages and wore down a stubborn Omahamoiselle to prevail by a neck, stopping the clock in 1:37.45.

The victory continues an excellent run of form for Emerald Spun, who broke her maiden at Colonial Downs in early July before returning to finish second in allowance company later that month. Sunday's performance put her right back in the winner's circle and brought her career earnings to $157,339.

Bred in Virginia by Ann Mudge Backer and Smitten Farm, Emerald Spun is by Hard Spun out of the Empire Maker mare Summertime Green.
