First start, first win for Excellent.

Two-year-old Quality Road colt Excellent made an impressive first trip to the races on August 9 at Colonial Downs, rallying strongly to capture Race 3, a 5 1/2-furlong Maiden Special Weight on the dirt, by 1 1/2 lengths.

With jockey Jareth Loveberry aboard, Excellent saved ground along the inside in the early stages before coming five wide into the upper stretch. Looking for racing room, he angled out near the furlong marker and produced an impressive late run, closing strongly from the outside to prove best at the wire.

The victory marked a promising start for the well-bred colt, who was purchased for $575,000 at the 2025 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.

Excellent is owned by WinStar Farm, China Horse Club and First Go Racing.

Congratulations to his connections, and a big thank you to the entire Brisset Racing team for their work behind the scenes. We look forward to seeing what’s next for this exciting young colt.
